Bunny Ears for you Pets Sewing Pattern

Lol! She's miserable.... but it's so much fun to see her in bunny ears.

This project came about because I received an email from Mary asking if I had a sewing pattern for bunny ears for her cat. I didn't but the more I thought about her idea, the more I wanted to make some ears for Ruby.

Here's Otis, he slept through the photo shoot. I'm not sure if he knows he has them on.

Instructions

1. Arrange the front of the ear onto the back ear with the interfacing sandwiched between. The bottom edges should be aligned and the sides centered. Top stitch around the outer edge of the inner ear. 

2. Repeat step 1. For the second ear.


3. Measure and cut a piece of elastic for the headband. Ruby”s elastic is xx for reference.

4. Layer the two felt ovals and place an end of the elastic in between on each side. (See photo above)


5. Secure with pins and top stitch around outside.

6. Next, we will be hand stitching the ears to the top of the headband. I found using a slip stitch all the way around helped secure the ears. You can tack the ears together at the bottom if they need extra support.

Reversible Place Mat Pattern

Later this month is the Stetson Mansion Quilt Show. I was asked to send some projects to help fill the kitchen and the children's room. These place mats are on their way to the show right now. I'll get you more details about the show and show you what else I am sending soon. In the meantime, here is a tutorial for making them. You might want to knock out a set for your 4th of July festivities. Did you see they are reversible?

Finished Size:

Approximately 12" x 18"

You'll Need:

1/2 yard of 4 Fabrics (I used my BugaPalooza Fabrics)

1/2 yard Batting

4 Yards Jumbo Ric Rac

Coordinating Thread

For a Set of four place mats, cut:

4 Side Strip Pieces measuring 6" x 12" 

4 Side Strip Pieces measuring 6" x 12" 

4 Main Pieces measuring 12" x 12" 

4 Main Pieces measuring 12" x 12"

Instructions:

1. Sew a side strip to a main piece to make the rectangle place mat and press.  Make 8 sets of these, 4 in one colorway and 4 in another colorway.

2. Choose one of each colorway pieces that you sewed and arrange them so they have right sides facing. Arrange them together so the two smaller sides are on opposite sides, in other words so the two smaller sides don't match up. This will make the place mats lie more evenly.

3. Place the mats on top of the batting and trim the batting to the size of the mats. Pin ric rac along each of the shorter sides. Fold the ends in on the ric rac so it does not get sewn into the corners. See diagram below. 

4. Pin all three layers together. Using a 1/4" seam allowance, sew around all four sides of the place mat leaving a 4" opening along one of the longer sides.

5. Clip the corners and turn right sides out. Press. Fold the raw edges inward of the opening and press and pin. This opening will get sewn shut when you top stitch the placemats.

6. Top stitch around the outer edges of the mat as well as down the ditch of each side. (If you look closely in the picture above you can see the stitching approximately 1/3 of the way over from the right edge. That is the seam of the two pieces on the opposite side. )

 Some of the beading tutorials can be translated into other beads.  For instance just above is my Swing Necklace Tutorial. I love this one and use it a lot. I used the same technique to make the Halloween necklace that I listed in Etsy yesterday. I like to keep thinks simple when it comes to beading. Hopefully you'll find some inspiration here.

As for the sewing projects, I only have two so far, but I am working on more as week speak. I am soooo happy I finally figured out the PDF file thing. Seriously my husband and I have tried so many times to make a PDF with a link it's my biggest accomplishment of the week or maybe month.

Besides that we're just chugging along here at the studio. Make, glaze, fire, repeat. :) I'm also getting ready for a talk next week. I will be giving a short run through of how I design fabric at the Lake Oconee Quilt Guild. I will also have a trunk show before and after the talk. Here's more information if your near and wanted to come. I am sure they would love to have you.
