May Wrap Up, Important Dates, and a SALE

May is over and I am doing my best to do a monthly wrap up of the best blog posts so if you missed anything, you might catch it here. Also, I'm having a sale this week and I'm taking a work-cation from the shops so make sure you get to the bottom of this post for the those dates and more importantly, the coupon code.

Here are the highlights from May....

I didn't travel but was well represented at Surtex in New York City and at Quilt Market in Portland this month. Both shows happened to be on the same weekend this year...busy...busy.

Now on to dates. I am taking a work-cation. That means I will be working for the next few weeks but I won't be shipping anything from the shops, I will be slow returning e-mails, etc. I'll still be doing some posting, instgraming, face booking, you know, I can't stay completely away. But the shops Etsy and Jenniferjangles.com will be closed June 7th until the 24th. If you place an order in that time, I will ship it on June 25th. 

In the meantime...if you've had you eye on something and you want to grab it up before then, here's a coupon to entice you.... 25% off everything in the Etsy shop. 25Sale is the code to use at checkout. Quilt Market, Spring 2013

Hello, Hello, Long time no blog. It's Quilt Market this weekend in Portland. All last week I was busy sewing samples for the Thermoweb booth. I have sent them my Okey Dokey Owl and my Okey Dokey Owl and Friends Quilt for display in their booth. I am happy to say they are flying their way now as we speak. 

I am super bummed that I won't be at market this spring, but a girls got to take a market off every now and then. This just happened to be the one that was the farthest away and at the busiest time of the year for me. I am already excited about fall market because I will be there for sure.

So Quilt Market is usually a time when new fabric is debuted....

I will have two ready for ordering at this market. Hoopla and Everyday Fun. You will be able to sew with them in November. One is a basics line and the other is a mini line that has a fun quilt print and appliqué letters. The last minute touches and tweaks are still happening so there's not much to show you until after market. But I'll give you a snippet....

In The Beginning Fabrics is in booth 2439 if you're going to market and want to stop by and see the whole shabang.

New Patterns Peek

I've ben so busy with Quilt Market prep and Holiday newsletters that  haven't had time to tell you about my two new sewing patterns. Yikes! I am so excited about them. I have two new patterns and they are shipping now. First is Pickles the Elephant. 

Most elephants are crazy for peanuts but this little guy is crazy for pickles. Pickles stands about 8 inches tall. If you want to make pickles of Pickles you can find a free PDF pattern at my blog.

Next are my Little Ditty bags. A Ditty bag by definition is a bag used mostly by sailors to hold small items such as sewing supplies. Now I couldn't just make a plain ditty bag....This pattern includes all four styles; a cupcake, a toad still, a turtle, and a crab. They stand about 5 inches tall and are great for holding gifts, jewelry, sewing supplies, and more.

 I just wish I could hand you these little guys through the computer so you could hold them. If you're coming to market I am in booth 1467, you can hold them there. :)

Quilt Market, Kansas City Here I Come!

Today is packing day! I am so ready to get everything in the car and take off. Got my fingers crossed that it all fits. If not we have a cargo box for the top and a cargo carrier for the back, one way or another it will make it to Kansas City.

As I write, I am waiting on one last kiln to cool down so I can get the rest of the buttons that I need. After I unload it I am heading over to the studio where Katie and I will be packing up button sets, packing, and loading the car.

Quilt Market

Whew! I'm back. I took the red eye and got in at 6:30 AM on Monday. I slept all day. Yesterday I cleaned both studios. My home studio was covered in fabric and my away studio was just a plain mess. I am feeling better now that they are clean. I took a bunch of photos but left my camera at the studio. I will post them soon.

It was a fantastic show, got to see lots of friends and meet shop owners. Lot's of fun! I am back in my (clean) studio and working away on Bead and Button Show preparations. Only three weeks away....why do these shows have to be so close together?

Good morning...

So a few days ago I wrapped up my two new sewing patterns. I was so happy because they and a couple other projects were consuming all of my time. It was such a great feeling to be finished. We left for our mini vacation and I was relaxed.

Monday night Nik and I were talking about how time was flying by and "How could it be mid April already?" Wait a minute mid-April? What...how did that happen? You have seen my calender you know I have been using it but for some reason I was a little oblivious to the fact that it was indeed mid April. Quilt Market is in one month!

My booth was quite an elaborate one last time and I spent a good three months with it in my garage. Now one month before the show and I have a white sheet hanging on one of the walls and nothing else. I am in panic mode now, I don't work well under pressure. I hate pressure. So it gets worse, I am flying to Salt Lake City for teh show so I am shipping my booth to the show. If you have ever done a trade show in the past you know you have deadlines and they are usually early. I called and talked logistics with the company. It turns out I need to ship my booth by the 25th! In 11 days! AAAAH!

As a result...I forgot to set my alarm for the boys to get up for school, I forgot to send lunch money to school, I missed my turn and drove and extra 15 miles down the highway before I realized I missed my exit for baseball practice, and on and on... Completely a mess here, all I can think about is the booth.

I think I have come up with a plan a plan that will surely change. I can't give away booth details because at Quilt Market they have awards for best booths. Not that at this late in the game I have a chance at winning but I still want the design to be a surprise. I will say this, I am going dumpster diving today in hopes of finding display materials....keep you posted on that one. :)

One more thing before I go....I am trying something new today. I needed a picture for this post, gotta have a picture right? Well I have never put this jar up online anywhere and I knew that if I did, I would get asked if I was going to sell these in the Etsy shop. I have seen these neat buttons so you can sell like on Etsy but just on your blog. I thought I would try it out, if it works that would be great because I have lots of one of a kinds that I would love to show. There is one Cherry box and if you click on the "buy one" button it will take you to Paypal just like you're shopping in Etsy. Super cool eh? If it doesn't say "buy one" then it has sold.

Pillows

Here they are...finally. These are the pillows I made for Quilt Market. For some reason, my photo didn't make it to my computer when I took pictures at the show. I love these and they went straight to my family room when I got home. I love the felt balls sewn on the side and I guarantee you will be seeing more of that in future projects.

If you got my Holiday newsletter this week you found the instructions for a miniature pillow just like these. It's not for your couch though, it's for a pin cushion. I will save those photos for another day.

Sewing Projects

Hi there! I just had to show you a couple of photos that found their way to my inbox this week. I can't believe the amazing things that you are sewing with my Happy fabric. This adorable dog sporting the fancy collar was made by Angie. Her company is Fetching Collars. You can find her here on facebook. The photography is amazing as well and it was shot by Mia Baker Photography. These women are both from Athens so if you're a local reader of this blog you can find them around town.

My friend Harriet Rudolf made this bag. How great is that? I met Harriet through the Miami Bead Guild a long time ago. She's a beader and she does amazing sewing and quilting. I been told by other members of the guild that they would all be having Harriet sew them tool bags from my fabric. If you need a bag, let me know and I will give you her e-mail.



I know there is more out there that has been sewn with my fabric so I thought I should create a Flicker group for the projects. I know when I go to other blogs I love to see what folks are making. Look down there in the right hand side of the blog. Please...oh....please show me some photos of what you've been making.

Holiday Beads and a Road Trip

Hey, Hey! I just loaded up a bunch of new holiday beads into the Etsy shop. This is it for the week beacuse I am off to Quilt Market. My mom and I leave today and we'll be driving. I have so much stuff and I am really hoping it all fits into the van I have rented. I am usually a light packer but this is such a new adventure for me I can't really know what to expect. So I am bringing everything I think I might need. If you're going to be at Quilt Market this weekend please... oh... please, stop by and say Hi. My booth is 2145.

I am hoping to post some pictures while on the road but they will have to be iphone pictures until I can get home with the camera and my computer. I have promised to take lots, I know there are many folks who want to see everything.

Happy Fall

Happy Fall! I hope you're all out doing fun fall things on this Saturday. We're just waking up around here and I don't know what our plans are, I'm thinking a corn maze might be fun. But over the last few weeks we have been having lots of fall fun. We're only a few hours from the mountains so we have found ourselves up there a few times this month. We went to an apple orchard and picked apples. It was fun and beautiful. I could have picked apples all day.




I am kind of goign backwards here with my post...sorry it's how things are flowing this morning(pre-mocha). Above is a cute little house my mom made with my new Home Sweet Home Pattern. How cute is that? The fabric is Hallowgraphix by Jason Yenter just in case you need to get your hands on some.

My mom is going with me to Quilt Market next week. She and Nik's mom are coming down early to help me get ready. How nice is that? I am hoping she will sew some more houses for me. Once she does, I will post them.

The next few days are super busy packing up for the show, you might not hear from me for awhile. But people are asking for holiday beads....just to let you know by Wednesday they will be up. I even have a holiday themed necklace for this weeks newsletter.

Lots To Do

Hey, Hey! If I am a bit non existent in blog land this week be sure I am still around. I leave for Bead and Button in a week and a half. There are so many things to do, like make more of those cute little bird house pendants above. Today is the day for that, and starfish, and flowers. I will do my best to get some up on Etsy before I leave.

Last week was Quilt Market also. I didn't go this time because I just have my fabric designs on paper. But this October I will be traveling to the show in Houston to exhibit. I will be showing off my fabrics and buttons to the quilt world. I am anxiously waiting to hear what everyone thought of my fabric. I will also be reading lots of blogs this week to see all of the great new fabric from other designers that debuted this week also. So much fun! By the way, I will have my fabic book at the Bead and Button show so if you want to see them in person, just ask when you stop by the booth.

Okay, got to make some pancakes for one of the little guys before I head out to the studio....
