Bead Surfin, Shrimp Boats, and Quilts

Wow spring has sprung around here! There is so much going on it's unbelievable. It was spring break at UGA where my husband is so it was one of those weeks where I was cramming in work where I could and playing when I could squeak it in. My mom and dad and brother visited also. My mom is a quilter...here is the super cool folk art quilt that she made me....isn't it great? We went to a quilt show while she was here and now I am super inspired to do some wall hangings of my own.

Then this weekend we took my brother surfing, I say we but really I stay on sand, but everyone else surfs, I either catch up on all my magazines or comb the beach for treasures. We found shark teeth and beach glass this time. Here a picture of a shrimp boat. After college I wanted to run off an be a shrimp boater. I am a vegetarian so it probably wouldn't have worked out and I think I am probably better off being an artist. But I have always liked the idea of working on a boat.

When I was catching up on all of magazines, I got to read Where Women Create, it is a super cool magazine. I actually liked reading the articles more than the pictures. It was fun to here how different artists work and create. I got a lot of helpful tips. I definitely need more storage and labels. Several of the artists get up at 4:00am to get work done. I am feeling inspired to try it. I don't know if it's physically possible for me, I like my 8 hours every night but I am feeling like I need to get everything done that I want to do. There are just too many projects spinning around in my head and they need to get out. I will keep you posted on how it goes....

Bead Surfin and a New Necklace

Good Morning!
Can't type much this morning, my beads absolutely have to be mailed today to get to Bead Haven for the trunk show this weekend. I have little piles of them around the studio. They need to be strung up on wire and the pairs need to be tied. Plus I just need to sort, count, and price everything. Whew! It will get done, but I really need to hunker down and do it this morning. I hate to be late, actually I don't even like to be almost late. I think I have said this before, in college I wrote my papers two weeks before they were due. The stress of last minute work kills me.

But on to a new subject....I am having so much fun designing with my new beads. Here are some pieces I have recently made. Enjoy these and the surfin links below and once I get these beads packed up I will be back.

Surfin Monday...

Wow, I usually post my Bead Surfin posts on Sunday, but I am not sure what happened yesterday. The day just kind of disappeared. Today will just have to be a double post day.

It is officially the end of the garden here. I tore out all of my basil plants and plucked all of my leaves of. I love pesto, it might just be my favorite food. I had 15 basil plants in our garden because of this. I have harvested basil all summer and I make pesto with it and freeze it. It's amazing how much you think you have but by the time you pluck it and put it in the food processor, it's so little. So here was my last harvest, in the end I think I had almost 20 cups of pesto.

Bead Surfin

Good Morning...
I know I usually do my Bead Surfin post on Sunday, but I was soooo busy moving my studio that I didn't even turn my computer on yesterday. I have made good progress, with the help of my mom(Thanks mom!) in getting everything moved. I just need a really big coffee table and I will be ready for the "big reveal" as they call it in showbiz. Oh and I have to put the humongous pile of beads away that is on my work table. Moving a studio really makes you see how many beads you really have. I couldn't believe what I found. Okay, Okay, enough about the studio. I am going to post my surfing links below and get to work glazing beads for orders. I have lots of things to keep me busy today.

Bead Surfin, Did You Know, and A Big Sale

Here's a craft idea for you. Did you know that you can take a clay flowerpot, glaze it and out it in your kiln? I know there are a lot of beadmakers out there with small kilns. These flower pots come in all sizes, you can even find saucers that could be converted into plates too. Follow the instructions on your low fire glaze jars and put them in the kiln. Terracotta is a low fire clay so I would fire more than cone 06(1828 degreesF). I painted this flowerpot and fired it in my kiln. I am working on some more for my porch too. Let me know if you try it, I would love to hear about it.
