Side Stories, the mishaps of Jennifer at the holidays, part 2

Side Stories…Getting ready for Christmas..more resons why I am a Holiday nut

My best friend, Tarin, and I would start out getting ready for the holidays early and earlier every year when we were little. We would start in September making our paper chains that would count down the days until Christmas. We would also have sleep over’s and practice sneaking out to see what Santa had brought us on Christmas. We would have flash lights and walky talkies and would compare notes on how to do this at each others houses.

These days at my house, my boys are 5 and 7 and so far I have had to wake them up every year to see what Santa has brought them. I just don’t know where I went wrong…is it because they are boys or is it just that there mom is crazy? I remember starting at 4:00 and waking my parents up every half hour until they would finally let us get up at 6:00.

  1. jennifer, my 11, 9 and 7 year-olds are making up for your boys - though not quite in your league - they wait until around 5:30 to start. (and i am usually awake waiting for them, so it's ok)

but one by one they're not believing in not believe in santa! :(

  3. Wow, you are really bringing back fond memories of my childhood! I would make those paper chains, too and I was always the one that had to sneak down the steps to see what I could find.

  4. I am hoping my boys will get up on their own this year. They did get really excited about getting out the decorations. I've got my fingers crossed.

  5. I am the same way - I LOVE the hoidays! I will never forget my fist year as 'santa' I think those were the BEST cookies I ever had! The holidays take on a whole new meaning when you have kids - I would bet that this year will be different with your boys - 7 was about the age where mine really started to get into the whole scene and it is cute how they get the little ones all hyped up too!
    Have Fun! =)

  6. I would sneak and try to wake my brother up to do the same. I remeber him walking into the wall and then going back to bed. He wanted nothing to do with it. I bet my parents hated Christmas eve, they probably didn't sleep at all now that I think of it.
