My Ah-Ha Moment

Hey, Hey,

Do you ever have those ideas where you say to yourself, "why didn't I think of this sooner?" I had one of those yesterday. Let me back up and tell you the whole story. I know I just celebrated my 3000th sale on Etsy and I was celebrating. I was, but I have also been struggling with Etsy lately as well. Don't get me wrong, I love my Etsy shop for so many reasons. The fees are becoming insane though. There's a listing fee, a transaction fee, a percentage taken, etc. Way more of my sale goes to Etsy than I would like.

That said, I put all of my new work in Etsy and link to the Etsy shop waaaay more than my website. Why? Because everything in Etsy is in stock, ready to ship. That's not always the case in my web store. I don't mind making the orders when I get them, it's just that it takes me awhile to make everything with kilns firing multiple times, etc. It just takes time and it can't be hurried. When someone places a website order, they have to wait and I hate that. I love being able to ship orders the same day I receive them.

So my ah ha moment was inventory count on my website. I have a web designer and she had asked me about it before but it sounded like a complicated idea(probably 5 years ago). Well, yesterday I went rummaging through the website and found that inventory was super simple to set up. I did it myself!

Either way, if you go shopping now, you will see how many items of something I have in stock. No more wondering how fast things will arrive. I can't tell you how happy this makes me. I love it! I probably shouldn't be so excited eh? Can't help myself. :)

After the holidays, I'm going to do some re-organizing and re-designing of the site as well. But in the meantime, you'll know what I've got to ship you.

Have a great day,

  1. Great post Jennifer! Thank you for the tips. Will forward this to my husband since we are currently working on a web redesign and plan on setting up a store to sell extra beads and sample jewelry and we would have a very similar inventory issue.

It is always amazing to me how the best solution is often right under your nose. Thanks for sharing your ah-ha moment!

    1. Good luck with the site. I always tweak mine in January but this was just too good of an idea to wait.

  2. Buttons? You make buttons?! Why did I not know this?!? I use pretty buttons on my purses and totes. I think I need to go shopping!
