Hanging Pot Holder Tutorial

Only three more Holiday Projects left, time is flying by us. I have these potholders in my kitchen and I find them very handy. I know there are lots of potholder tutorials out there, nut here's what is different about mine. You see that button? The binding continues off of the potholder and makes a loop. It can be hung on your stove and it's right there when you need it, handy eh?

Here's what you need:

1/4 yard cotton fabric
1/8 yard cotton fabric for binding
1 button
8" x 16" batting
8" x 8" heat resistant fabric (optional)

Instructions:

 1. Cut 4 squares of fabric, 2 squares of batting, and one square of heat resistant fabric(optional) measuring  8" x 8" each.

2. Place two of the fabric squares together. Measure 4 inches down from the center of one of the corners. Place another ruler underneath that is perpendicular. This will become the pocket.

3. Cut across that perpendicular line. With right sides together, sew down the edge you just cut. Open and flip fabric around so that wrong sides are together. Press and top stitch down the edge and set aside.

                                          

4. Place a square of fabric right side down on your work surface. Place two pieces of batting on top, then the heat resistant fabric, and then the last full square should go on top with the right side facing upward. Add the pocket piece to the top of this stack. If you need to trim the edges to square thing up, do this now.

5. Cut a piece of binding measuring   42" x 2.5". Fold in half and press. Pin to the four edge of the top of the potholder starting at the corner that does not have the pocket. This will be the top of your potholder.   Sew around the edge just like you sew the binding on a quilt.

6. Turn the biding over and hand sew it to the opposite side of the potholder. Do not trim the excess binding off of the potholder.

Your potholder should be looking like this.

7. Fold the raw edge of the excess binding in 1/4" and then again another 1/4" and press.

8. Tuck the end in and make a loop that will fit around your button. Sew the end to that point on the binding.

9. Sew the button on and you are finished!

Happy Scrappy Scarf Kits

Okey Dokey Owl for Christmas

Stacked Ornaments Project and Making A Simple Wire Loop

Here's the how to for these fun stacked ornaments a.k.a. whimsical icicles. This would be a fun project to make with the kids.

Supplies Needed:

An Assortment of Beads

20 Gauge Craft Wire

18 Gauge Craft Wire

Instructions:

1. Make a spiral at the end of the 20 gauge wire.

2. Start stacking beads from smallest to largest on the wire until you are happy with your ornament.

3. Make a simple wire loop (see below) just above the last bead. Trim any excess wire.

4. Using the 18 gauge craft wire make an ornament hook (see below).

You can pin it or print these tutorials for later reference.

Free Printable Gift Tags

It's time for free printable tags again. I make a new set each year for you to print out and use for your gift wrapping. I'm lazy, or efficient :) and print mine out on label paper then I can just stick them onto the package. These above I used red and white bakers twine for tying up.

Joy Wall Quilt

It's week number six of my holiday projects and this weeks project is a wall quilt. I actually I think I will hang mine on a door, but you could use it on a table as well. Theres a PDF to download with all of the full size appliqués for the quilt.

Here are the basics:

Background and backing 1 yard

For Joy and Berries 1/3 yard red

Holly Leaves 1/8 yard of two greens

Binding 3/8 yard

This quilt is made in my It's Christmas! fabric available in stores now. I carry my Jolly Holiday fabric from last year in my Etsy shop and there's black, red, and green there as well.

To assemble, cut the background of the quilt to 15" x 36". Using Heat n Bond Lite or another fusible webbing fuse all of the pieces onto the quilt top, using the above picture for reference.  I went around the edges with a blanket stitch to secure them, but you could use any stitch you would like. Quilt and binding is all that is left.

Snowman Week Wrap Up

Snowman Ornament Project

Ornament Project
Supplies Needed:

• Ceramic Holiday Pendant
• 6 inches of glass holiday colored beads
• 12 inches of silver colored 18 gauge craft wire

Instructions:

1. Begin by stringing the glass beads onto the craft wire. Bend the wire in a circle.
2. Push the beads to one end of the wire, leaving 2 inches of it still showing. Bend the long end of the wire into a 90 degree angle. (This long wire will eventually become the hook.)
3. Take the shorter end of the wire and wrap it around the wire end that is pointing up( the hook wire).
4. You should still have and inch or so of wire remaning after you twist it. Bend this wire down into the center of the circle. Make a loop and hang you pendant off of it. Secure it with a twist around the circle wire.
5. Grab the end of the long wire with your pliers and make a small loop. With the pliers still holding the loop, turn the wire to make a hook shape.

Snowman Goody Jars

 Holiday Treat Jars would be good for putting baked goodies or candy in for gifts. They are really easy to make. I spray painted the lids of canning jars. Once they were dry I hammered a nail through the center of the lid and then pulled the nail out. This left a hole just the size for my 18 gauge craft wire. I made a little spiral at one end, threaded it through the hole and put a dab of hot glue on the wire to hold it in place. While I had the hot glue gun on, I went ahead and put a little glue around the rim on the inside. This will hold the two lid pieces together. Next I added some glitter, strung on the beads and finished off the top with a little spiral or star.

Snowman Pin Cushion

Welcome to day three of Snowman Week. Today is a pin cushion I put together using my Ice Cream Sundae Pin Cushion Pattern. It's free and can be found here at my blog. I sewed it up leaving the last two tiers off. I sewed the ceramic pin topper to the top layer before sewing it to the base. It would make a great gift for someone who sews. 

Fun and easy! So let's recap this week so far, yesterday was the snowman mug rug, and Monday was a Snowman Ornament. Tomorrow is a jewelry project so come on back for more fun.

I just added even more snowmen to my Etsy shop since the SNOWMAN SALE is still going on.

Snowman Mug Rug Pattern

We're still continuing snowman week here at the Jennifer Jangles Blog. I had a lot of fun making this Snowman Mug Rug. You can find the full size printable Snowman Mug Rug Applique Pattern here.

It's all applique and to make it a quick project, I ironed on all of the appliques with Heat n Bond and then used a piece of fusible fleece as my batting. I did raw edge applique with my quilt sandwich made so it was being quilted at the same time. I did some more loop dee loops(technical term) on the black background and I was finished quilting. I sewed the binding on last night while hanging with the family. Easy Pea-sy. These little projects make me want to make more, they are so fun and satisfying.

Because I know someone will want to know, the background fabrics and the binding are from my It's Christmas! line of fabric. You can find it in quilt shops now.

Snowman Ornament Project

What do you call a snowman in the summer?

A puddle :)

Hey Hey, as promised, it's Snowman Week! Let's celebrate winter coming this week. I've got snowman projects all week long for you as well as a snowman sale. Let's get started....

The first project of the week is a snowman ornament.

Supplies:
1 ceramic snowman bead
1 ceramic word link
1 holiday glass bead
1 seed bead
2" headpin
4" of wire 20 gauge
5" wire 18 gauge

Instructions:
1. Start by stringing the seed bead and glass bead onto the headpin. Create a simple wire loop just above the glass bead. Before closing it, slide the bottom loop of the word link onto the loop. Close and trim excess wire.
2. With the 20 gauge wire make a simple wire loop and add the top loop of the word link to it before closing. String the snowman bead onto the wire and create a second simple wire loop at the top of the snowman.
3. Using your 18 gauge wire start by making a small loop on one end. Curl it around to make a spiral that is approximately an inch in diameter.
4. Repeat step 3 for the remaining side of the wire to create the ornament hook. Slide the ornament on and you're finished!
