Springy Necklace Flashback

Hello everyone,

I have noticed that this week everything has bloomed here. I know you are all sick of hearing about how my spring has arrived. But if you have allergies, like all of the Heynen family does, it's not all rosey. Along with all of the beautiful blooms comes a coating of yellow pollen. Yes it's so thick you can see it. By April, if you park your car outside, you have to wash the windows to see through them. Something I learned about when I moved to Athens, the countries worst region for allergies, is the pollen count. I have seen mention of this on the weather channel but never really paid attention to it. This count tells you how much pollen is in the air, duh. An example of a moderate pollen count is somewhere between 30-60. Today in Athens ours is 191, which is in the extremely high range. Last year at the end of March, our pollen count was 5768! Yes I typed that right 5768. What the heck? Okay, probably more than you ever needed to know about the pollen count.

Above is a necklace I made that is very springy and has no pollen.
Have a great day!
Jennifer

  1. Hi Jennifer,

I feel your suffering - I have allergies too, indoor and outdoor so I check the pollen count daily here in NY state. Your numbers are so high! It must be awful when spring comes! I love the spring-y necklace and with no pollen! :-) Lovely work!

  2. Thanks Cindy. We couldn't believe those numbers when we moved here. My husband is the worst. He is getting allergy shots twice a week and they take six months before they kick in. So in the meantime, he is on 8 different medications so he can function. Poor guy.

Oh, I feel your pain. I lived in Georgia for over ten years, but the weird part is I didn't have allergies then, after I left PA my allergies disappeared. I'm in allergy hell here in PA after moving back again and have developed severe asthma. It's the hardwood trees, mold and the grasses here that kick my butt. That and my 126 year old house. Ergh. I swear sometimes I need to live in a plastic bubble!

Isn't that pine pollen insane? It coats everything! Hang in there! It does get better!

    Happy Spring!

    xoxo

  4. Margot,
I hear you. You know big cities do more damage to me than the pollen here. I have asthma too.

Last year I tried to photograph the pollen so people could see it. No one believed me back home how bad it was. You just can't capture it on camera. Of course I will try again this year, because it is still so bazaar to me and I kind of get obsessive about things like that.

    Cheers,
    Jennifer
