New! New! New!

Photobucket

See those cute little pins in the pin cushion above? I HAD to make them for the photo shoot. There is no way I could stop myself from making some Jang-ley pins for the cushion. I loved how they turned out and I ended up sewing with them all of the time. They are fun and really nice to work with.

The girls here at Jennifer Jangles kept telling me when I went to Quilt Market everyone would want them. They said you better come up with a price so you can sell them. I kept saying ya, maybe, but really, are people really going to want them? They were right. As soon as I set up for the first night of quilt market, I was bombarded with people wanting to buy them. So I I figured out the packaging, the pricing, and everything else and took orders. I took a lot of orders. Anyway, I finally have some stock of sewing pins. They are sold in sets of three and for now you can find them in the Etsy shop.

Oh, and I guess I should mention, if you want to make the super cute pin cushion to go with your new sewing pins, you can find it here.

Have a great day,

Pillows

Here they are...finally. These are the pillows I made for Quilt Market. For some reason, my photo didn't make it to my computer when I took pictures at the show. I love these and they went straight to my family room when I got home. I love the felt balls sewn on the side and I guarantee you will be seeing more of that in future projects.

If you got my Holiday newsletter this week you found the instructions for a miniature pillow just like these. It's not for your couch though, it's for a pin cushion. I will save those photos for another day.

Have a good one,

Sewing Projects

Hi there! I just had to show you a couple of photos that found their way to my inbox this week. I can't believe the amazing things that you are sewing with my Happy fabric. This adorable dog sporting the fancy collar was made by Angie. Her company is Fetching Collars. You can find her here on facebook. The photography is amazing as well and it was shot by Mia Baker Photography. These women are both from Athens so if you're a local reader of this blog you can find them around town.

My friend Harriet Rudolf made this bag. How great is that? I met Harriet through the Miami Bead Guild a long time ago. She's a beader and she does amazing sewing and quilting. I been told by other members of the guild that they would all be having Harriet sew them tool bags from my fabric. If you need a bag, let me know and I will give you her e-mail.

I know there is more out there that has been sewn with my fabric so I thought I should create a Flicker group for the projects. I know when I go to other blogs I love to see what folks are making. Look down there in the right hand side of the blog. Please...oh....please show me some photos of what you've been making.

Have a great day,

Doing a Happy Dance

Hey Hey! Guess what? Yep, I got the space. I am super excited to have a studio, it's gigantic and close to home. Only a couple of miles, that's really good, because at my last studio I did a lot of traveling back and forth.

Let me give you the tour....

Here is the outside, nothing to exciting, but nice. I love the big windows, it is so bright inside and I don't even have the power turned on.

You walk in the green door and you enter this room. I am thinking this will be the reception/office area. It's a nice blue so I won't paint it. Well maybe I would add some stripes or polka dots... it is still to be decided.

After entering the reception area you immediately turn right into this big ol' room. This will be the store/studio space.

I am thinking the front will be the store and it will be partitioned with curtains. These curtains will be able to open and close. That way when I have open houses, craft nights, or what-have-ya, I can shut off the messy part. Messy? Oh no, it will never be messy, will it?

There are three rooms off to the left. One is a big storage closet, one is a restroom, and one will be a kiln room. These are all painted nicely too. The bathroom is green. There was a Montessori school in here once, so I think that's why everything is bright. Because of the Montessori school there is also one of those tiny toilets next to the full size toilet in the bathroom. Just like I thought, my boys thought it was the best part of the studio and I couldn't get them off of it to take a picture! If you ever come visit, you can see the tiny toilet too!

I am taking votes on colors...I can't believe I am saying this but I have so many lime green, yellow, and turquoise rooms at home, I am thinking I need something different. I realize that I still will probably choose something close, but I was hoping to mix it up a bit. Got any suggestions?

Okay now that you have had the tour, here are a couple of other funny side notes....

I posted the previous studio post last week. Immediately the news traveled and I couldn't believe how fast. First of all my Grandma, who by the way, reads my blog everyday. (Hi Grandma!) called my dad to ask him about it. My parents had no idea so they e-mailed. Next, one of my employees, Katie, was out of town. She read my blog and e-mailed me about it. Nik's mom e-mailed....all of a sudden I had an inbox full of "Where's the studio?" questions. You blog readers are informed on all the latest Jangles news and sometimes even before the folks near me know. Things happen fast around here, that's why you have to read the blog. :)

Second side note...I officially get the place on December first, my business license will hopefully be approved on the 8th. I am thinking about hosting an open house on the 11th. What do you think, can I pull it off? I really want to have a shin-dig before the holidays. I will keep you posted because you're all invited!

Have a great day,

The Search for a Studio

Isn't this studio great? Just drool with me for it bit.....It was almost mine....It's in a section of a warehouse that is converted into lofts, artists studios, and small businesses. About three months ago, I went and looked at it. It had been for sale for quite a while so they decided to lease it. I called the landlord the day after looking at it. An hour before someone had called to say they were buying it. Ugh...I guess it was one of those too goo to be true things.

That is what began the search for a studio. There was more space available in the same building, it just need to be finished out. I drew up plans, we had many meetings, and the property manager was to call some builders out for estimates. That was three months ago, I called every week for a couple of those months. He told me he was working on it, but then I slowly began to realize this just wasn't going to happen.

I have looked at lots of properties since then. Some were too much money, some I later found out had landlords with bad reputations, and mostly people would just not call me back. Seriously in this economy and people can seem to call me back? It just seems people would want to rent their space, right?

Nik and I had settled for awhile that Jennifer Jangles would just be in the basement. In some ways that's great, but with trying to park cars in the driveway, me not really being able to get away from work, and worst of all is not having anywhere to go when our boys have their friends over is just too much. Our house has become half the size because of the studio growing.

So here is the good news...I might have found a place. I called the landlord and was going to meet him later that day to look at the space. I decided I would be the flakey one this time and cancel. It seemed too big and I just wasn't thinking it was going to work. I was headed out to the post office an hour before my appointment and for some reason I turned right instead of left and headed for the studio space. I thought I would just go check it out through the windows. I peeked in and it was nice, really nice. Just a big ol square with some bathrooms and a place for my kilns. I turned around to leave deciding to leave and the landlord was pulling up. He was early, so we checked it out, I then went and met my neighbors who were super nice. I did some other checking and found out the landlord is a good guy. I called him yesterday and told him I wanted it. Wahoo!

He's getting a lease written so it's not official, I haven't signed a thing. I am not super excited yet, but I am sure this is because of all the flakey people I have dealt with so far. But I am optimistic, I think it's going to happen. As soon as I sign the lease I will go take pictures and show you.

Of course my brain is reeling, this was always going to be just a studio but it's large and it's in a retail location. I could have a store, I could have classes, or open houses, oh my! So many ideas. I would love to hear your suggestions....

Happy Friday!

Goody Jars

Goody Jars

I just had to share the Holiday Project with everyone. It is so simple but I think they are stinkin adorable. These good be gifts for anyone. The pickled okra and peppers for my dad...I canned an entire case of it for his birthday present in July! The gumballs for my little guys and the chocolate for the baby sitter. The tags are up in the Etsy shop as well as my website and beside that you just need a jar and some ribbon , fabric, or felt. I used double sided tape to make sure the fabric stayed where it needed to be and the ribbons and cord were secured with a bow in the back.

Enjoy!

P.S. I just added a ton of new things to the Etsy shop today!

Houston Quilt Market 2010

Hey, Hey, I am back! Whew, I really got back Wednesday, but I had to take a few days to rest and fight off a cold. I am rested and almost organized again. I was really excited to come to work today, and it's Monday. Anywho, Quilt Market was fantastic and I wanted to show and tell you all about it.....
My mom and I drove to Houston, it was about a 13 hour drive from Athens, GA to Houston, TX. I could not ship all of the things I needed to Texas without it costing a small fortune. We got to drive through parts of the country where I have never been. I have been to New Orleans and Houston before but always via airplane, with driving you get to see so much more. Here we are driving through a bayou, how cool is that?

We took a five mile detour and had dinner in Biloxi. Ah, shrimp boats... you know I would be a shrimper if I weren't an artist. Kind of weird because I am a vegetarian. I just really like boats and water. I have a shrimp boat Christmas ornament on my tree every year. Okay back to quilt market because in reality I'm an artist, which isn't to bad of a gig either!

Here's a shot from an upstairs window of the convention center. You can't even see my booth from here, this show is gigantic!

Here is my booth, all finished. Love the red carpet...not. I was pretty happy with the display. The hard walls were a pain in the rear. I think they will now be turned into studio tables. Next time I will figure something else out.

Here are a few closeups, I swear I took more but I am not finding them. I wanted to show you some super cool pillows I made, but I guess I will have to re-photograph them.

A play village made with my Home Sweet Home Pattern. Which by the way, my patterns were a big hit. Thanks to everyone who ordered them. They are shipping today!

My little ottoman, this is the piece that sent me to the doctor. Remember the screw driver in my hand incidence? This is what caused it. But it's cute, right?

My super nice neighbors Izzy and Ivy patterns.

My mom being so kind and sharing her coffee with Mark Lipinski.

Jennifer Jangles buttons at the E.E.Schenck booth. Don't you just love that little tree that Voni made?

Here's a shot with me and Sara and Mary from the Intown Quilters shop. They are in Decatur Georgia, so they are not to far from me. If you ever get a chance to go to their shop, take it. It's so bright and fun but as a warning, bring lots of money. I always want everything there.

Here's a cute quilt by Karie Patch Designs. Check out the flip flops, they have my buttons on them!

I got to spend a lot of time with the folks at In The Beginning Fabrics, our booths were across from each other. We always do a lot of phone talking, e-mailing , and faxing, but it was so much fun to spend three days together in person. Here is Paula modeling the bag she made with my fabric. Everyone wanted to that one home. Below is a Happy quilt that hung in their booth.

All in all the show was a great success. It was so exhausting and I can't believe there is another one in six months. I am hoping I have recovered by then.

Missed you guys!
