Happy New Year!

Hi there, I hope everyone had a fabulous Christmas. We did here at our house. The kids are still out of school and we are still spending some time together until they go back to school next week. I just wanted to say Thank You for a fantastic year. I owe it all to my blog readers, bead customers, friends, and family. I will be back to blogging next week, I have lots of fun planned for 2010 so I will see you then....

Holiday Wrap Up

Hey Hey...thought I should post some dates for shipping and last minute orders. Tomorrow, Wednesday the 16th is the last day to order from the Jangles website and still get it in time for Christmas. The website is always open and I am working on orders when I can, but I will be out of the studio from December 22nd through January 3rd. I will be back in full swing on January 4th.

As for Etsy Jangles and Jangles Emporium, I will ship until the 22nd. If you need something for Christmas and you are worried about getting it there in time, e-mail me and we can figure something out. Orders placed after the 22nd will still be shipped throughout the holidays, but there are a lot of days the post office is closed so plan on a few extra days transit time.

If you placed an order at the open house, I am glazing all week to get things made. Your orders will be going out in the next day or two.

Make sure you stop back by the blog during the holidays, I will still be posting.

Flashback Friday-Plant Sticks

Plant Sticks

Supplies Needed for one plant stick:

• one large ceramic bead
• approx 20 assorted seed beads and/or accent beads
• 18 gauge craft wire approximately 18 inches in length

Instructions: These plant sticks are all a little different so the instructions are basic and you can let your creativity flow on what you add to the sticks.

1. Start by making a loop, a spiral, or star at the end of your craft wire.
2. Start by stringing seed beads onto the wire. Add the ceramic bead and any accent beads you would like.
3. Finish up with some more seed beads.
4. Push all of the beads up to the top of the wire. Grab the wire just under the beads with your needle nose pliers. Twist the wire in a loop to secure the beads.

This hours prize is for this fun beaded bracelet. I made this bracelet on memory wire with three medium beads and a glass bead mix. It's super fun to wear and even better it will fit any size of wrist.

My Favorite Sweets

In a previous post, I told you I like to bake. I thought I would share with you my three favorite holiday recipes. They are always around the Heynen house in December. By the way the cookies in the picture are ceramic.

Peanut Butter Balls

Ingredients:
1 cup Peanut Butter
1 cup Butter, softened
1 cup Rice Krispies
1 cup Coconut

Directions:
Mix the peanut butter, butter, and rice krispies together. Form into balls and roll in coconut. I like to store mine in the refrigerator and then put them on a plate for parties.

Peppermint Patties

Ingredients:
3/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
1 1/2 teaspoons peppermint extract
4 cups confectioner's sugar
3 cups semisweet chocolate chips
2 teaspoons shortening

Directions;

Mix the milk and peppermint extract together in a bowl. Start adding the powdered sugar a little at a time. Keep adding the sugar until the mixture becomes a stiff dough that is no longer sticky. Roll into 1 inch balls and flatten with your hands. I put them on wax paper on a cookie sheet and let them dry out for a couple of hours. Turning them over half way through will help.

In a separate bowl melt the chocolate chips. Add the shortening and stir until smooth. With a fork dip the patties into the chocolate. Lay them back onto the waxed paper to cool.

Yum...I'm hungry now :)

Some Holiday Inspiration

I thought I would get a big long post of Holiday Jewelry in here. I have made a lot of it over the past nine years I have been making ceramic beads. Here are some holiday ideas....

Personalized Ornaments

How cute are these? I have always wanted to offer a personalized bead, ornament or something but wasn't really sure if I could handle making personalized items all of the time. It's possible I could go crazier than I already am. :)

I thought today would be the perfect day for these snowman ornaments. I made my boys these with their names on them. You could get one for your kids, your grand kids, your dog, your hubby, your teacher, oh I could go on and on...

I can do just about any length of name, Fletcher has eight letters and it fits on the snow just fine. If you're wondering if a name is possible, e-mail me, remember I am here.

Why I like Christmas so Much

As you all know by now, I love Christmas. I thought I would list some reasons why...

1. I love the lights, I would have my yard done up in them all year round if possible.
2. I love all the bright colors, the glitter, the patterns on the wrapping paper, the shiny balls, I could go on and on.
3. I like to wrap presents.
4. I like to shop, even at 5:00 the day after Thanksgiving. Yes, I was out there, I wouldn't miss it for anything. I have gone with nothing to buy.
5. I like my family and friends so parties with all of them are fun.
6. I like to bake and this time of the year I have a good excuse to do it.
7. I love the hustle and bustle. Being crazy busy is fun when it's not all year round. Seriously, the long lines at the grocery store and Target make me happy.
8. People are friendlier this time of year.

Where are you from?

We didn't do this last year and some of you had the great idea to say where you are from when you post on the blog tonight. Last year we had people from all over the country and a few other countries posting comments and hanging out. If you want to put your location in the comments that would be super cool.

And just in case you don't know, I am from Athens, Georgia. I am originally from Kokomo, IN and then we lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for about four years. We settled here in Georgia three years ago.

Big Day!

Good morning! Big day here in the Jangles Studio. It's the open house tonight. I am working away getting new things added to the shop. I hope you all stop by tonight between 6-10pm EST, I have lots of great prizes, sales, and more. Talk to you then....

Glitter

As you probably know, my youngest little guy is six years old. We have been reading lots and lots of Junie B. Jones books. If you're in kindergarten or first grade you totally know who she is. Anyway, they are really funny books and last night Junie said something in her book that I can't get out of my head.

"Glitter can turn your whole day around."

I guess officially, the quote would be by Barbara Parks since she is the author of the book. Either way, I do love the quote and I do wish I was able to get glitter glaze for my beads. I am a sucker for shiny things. Above is a picture of the Glitter Bar at my friend Dori's Dreaming Bear Studio. If you are ever in Marion Iowa, you can stop by and use all types of the stuff on your art projects. How fun!

Flashback Friday-Beaded Pendant

Beaded Pendant Necklace

Supplies Needed:

• Pendant and Bead mix
• 20 beading wire
• silver clasp
• 2 crimps
• 1 8mm jump ring

Instructions:

1. Begin by crimping one end of your beading wire to one side of your silver clasp.
2. String the beads in your box onto the wire. If you would like it longer, you can add silver beads, seed beads, or other coordinating beads in the mix.
3. Once you have all of the beads strung, crimp the second side of the clasp onto the beading wire. Trim excess wire.
4. Open up the jump ring and slide the pendant onto it. Slid this onto the middle of your beaded necklace and close.

Wow! I am busy, busy around the Jangles studio. Next Wednesday is my online open house. Yipee! We had a blast last year and I am hoping this year will be the same. I am working to get things ready for the big night. Above is a picture I am drawing, I have been working one several for my posts. I wanted something flashy to post for when I announce the winners of my doors prizes every hour.

I am also working on several new pieces to debut the night of the open house. I think you will really like what I have...but you have to wait until then to see. But I have to say, I am super excited to show them off. I will be stocking the Etsy stores with new work the day of the big event.
